Full and Partial Crowns
Dental crowns, also known as caps, are custom restorations designed to fit over a tooth to protect the structure and restore appearance and function. While traditional crowns completely cover and protect teeth that have been damaged, partial crowns – also called inlays and onlays – can be crafted to address cases of tooth damage in a more precise and conservative manner. For instance, if damage is between the cusps on its chewing surface, an inlay can be placed to restore that area. An onlay, when necessary, can be placed to extend over one or more of the cusps of a damaged tooth.
Custom Restorations For Your Needs
Full and partial crowns give our patients more options and customization for rebuilding and restoring compromised teeth. This allows your dentist to restore your tooth’s health and integrity without having to modify the entire tooth in preparation for a full dental crown, if needed.
Modern dental crowns can also be crafted in a variety of materials to suit each patient’s unique needs. For example, metal or porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns are often created to give molars maximum structural support. Porcelain or zirconia crowns, on the other hand, are often utilized to restore more visible teeth due to their highly lifelike appearance. In some cases, we can design and create a porcelain crown in just one day. Using innovative CEREC technology, a digital impression of your tooth and oral structures will be taken and sent to an on-site milling machine, which will craft your porcelain restoration on the spot.
